Bridgeport Woman who Owned Family City Business in Operation for 55 Years, Joanne Belasco, Passes

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 10, 2025

Joanne Pickens Belasco, 89, of Bridgeport, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 23, 1935, the only child of the late Dale and Eva Pearl (Warner) Pickens.

On April 16, 1959, she married Thomas D. Belasco, who preceded her in death on February 28, 2015, after 55 years of marriage.

She is survived by her son Thomas David Belasco, II and his wife Elisa of Bridgeport and her daughter Stephanie Ann Maley and her husband Richard of Shinnston; four grandchildren, Travis D. and Tyler D. Belasco, Justin D. Molina and Kelsey J. Maley; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Charlee; special cousins, Sharon, Phyllis Kay and Dollena; and several nieces and nephews.

Joanne was a graduate of Walkersville High School, Class of 1952. She then graduated as a Registered Nurse from Union Protestant Hospital. She worked as an RN at St. Mary’s Hospital, UP Hospital, and Webster Springs Memorial Hospital, where she met her husband Tom.

Joanne and Tom established Belasco Mobile Home Sales, Inc. in 1968, which is still in existence today. She loved the water, spending time at Tygart Lake at their cabin and also going to the beach on family vacations. Her and Tom travelled extensively worldwide, including trips to Italy, Ireland, Germany, England, Spain and Hawaii.

Her most important legacy will be her love for her family and the time she spent with them. Her family will remember her as a devoted and loving wife, and a selfless and accepting mother.

Words of comfort for the Belasco Family may be left at burnsidefuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Joanne’s memory be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Thursday from 3-8 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025, with Pastor Jerry Fiscus presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
