Business/Organization Hosts Needed for City of Bridgeport "Adventures in Candyland"

By Julie Perine on September 19, 2023

EDITOR'S NOTE: Businesses and organizations are still needed to host stations at this event. Register HERE or reach out to acallahan@bridgeportwv.gov for more information.

Bridgeport Parks and Recreation and The Bridge Sports Complex are excited to announce the return of Adventures in Candyland, the city’s new fall event. Set up in trick-or-treat fashion, the event will feature candy-inspired stops such as Peppermint Forest, Lollipop Woods, Licorice Lagoons, and more.

It all takes place at The Bridge Sports Complex outdoor turf field, 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.

“Children will stop at the check-in tent to receive their official Candyland Board, then work their way around the paved path, stopping at each station,” said Amy Callahan, Bridgeport recreation coordinator.

The City of Bridgeport will supply a table and chairs as well as a yard sign for each station with the station name and business or group logo/name. The creativity, activity and treat provided is up to the station sponsors.

“We are again looking for local businesses and community groups to help make the event a memorable one,” Callahan said. “Each station should plan on decorations, an activity, and treat (edible or non-edible). Ideally each station would promote either literacy, fitness/movement, personal safety, or a healthy treat, but this is not a requirement.”

A list of stations and sponsors is below. Returning businesses will have priority to their station.   After that, stations will be awarded on a first come basis. Additional stations are welcome. Just come up with a candy-themed stop. If your business or group wants to be part of the event, but cannot be there, there is a way to help.

“If you want to be a part of the event but cannot commit to the criteria of hosting a station, please consider the secondary sponsors of volunteering or consider partnering up with another group on a station,” Callahan said.

Adventures in Candyland is designed for kids ages two to 10. About 300 participants and their families are expected. All sponsoring businesses and organizations will be included on the Candyland board as well as the event flier.
