DHHR Reports 1,012 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Active Cases at 130; State Deaths at 7,184

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on August 05, 2022

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Friday, Aug. 5) the total number of  COVID-19 cases has increased to 561,275 with an increase of 1,012 new cases since the last update.

Friday's report shows the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 8.35 percent. The daily percent positive is at 9.71.

According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 22,686 (15,251 confirmed and 7,435 probable). Harrison County's active cases are at 130. There have been 22,294 recoveries and 262 deaths.

Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested.

The state's cumulative number of COVID-releated deaths is at 7,184 with 11 deaths reported since the previous update.

DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 90-year old male from Putnam County, an 89-year old male from Upshur County, a 64-year old female from Upshur County, an 85-year old male from Putnam County, a 96-year old female from Cabell County, an 80-year old female from Cabell County, a 91-year old female from Cabell County, a 93-year old female from Cabell County, an 82-year old female from Greenbrier County, an 85-year old male from Jackson County, and a 74-year old female from Mingo County.

“Summer is a time for family reunions and celebrations, and it is painful to report that many families are experiencing the deepest grief today,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “I urge each West Virginian to make the choice to be up-to-date with COVID vaccines and boosters to help stop this loss of life.”

There are 3,414 active cases and there have been 550,677 recoveries.

According to the DHHR site, as of Aug. 4, there are 341 hospitalizations with 58 patients in ICUs and 18 on ventilators.
