DHHR Reports 139 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Number at 6,255; State Deaths at 2,020

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on July 21, 2021

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Wednesday, July 21) the total number of COVID-19 cases has increased from 165,259 to 165,398; an increase of 139.

Wednesday's report is showing that the total number of tests given is 3,081,025 and the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 4.94 percent. The daily percent positive is at 3.26 percent (daily tests/confirmatory test results).

According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 6,255 (4,308 confirmed cases,1,947 probable cases), 76 active cases, and 82 deaths with 6,097 recoveries.

Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested.

The total number of deaths related to the coronavirus has increased from 2,919 to 2,020.

DHHR has confirmed the death of a 64-year old male from Marion County.

“We mourn the loss of this West Virginian and send our deepest sympathies to his loved ones,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “Vaccines are safe and effective, and if you are eligible, please do your part to end the pandemic by scheduling a COVID vaccine.”

The number of recoveries from the virus is at 161,291 with active cases at 1,187.

According to the DHHR site, there are 88 hospitalizations as of July 20.
