DHHR Reports 258 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Active Cases at 30; State Deaths at 7,876

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 07, 2023

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Tuesday, Feb. 7) the total number of  COVID-19 cases has increased to 636,240 with an increase of 258 new cases since the last update.

Tuesday's report shows the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 8.63 percent. The daily percent positive rate is at 8.99.

According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 25,808 (17,096 confirmed and 8,758 probable). Harrison County's active cases are at 30. There have been 25,534 recoveries and 290 deaths.

Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the staate border to be tested.

The state's cumulative number of COVID-releated deaths is at 7,877. There has been one death since the last report.

DHHR has confirmed the death of a 70-year old male from Jackson County.

“Our thoughts go out to the family of this West Virginian,” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Coben, Interim DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “Keeping up-to-date with COVID vaccination, including booster shots when due, is the best protection against existing variants.”

The state's number of active cases is at 726 and there have been 627,637 recoveries.

Hospitalizations as of Feb. 6 are at 229 with 29 patients in ICUs and 11 on ventilators.
