Driver, 10-Year-Old Thrown from Motorcycle as Result of Weekend Lodgeville Wreck; Truck Driver Cited

By Jeff Toquinto on May 04, 2021

A weekend motorcycle collision resulted in two individuals being thrown from their bike and ending up needing medical transport as the result of the injuries sustained.

According to Bridgeport Police Officer J.S. Carey, shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday, a motorcycle was coming off of Lodgeville Road when a 2021 Toyota Tundra attempted to turn left on Lodgeville Road into Walgreen’s. That is where the collision occurred.

“Along with both individuals, the male driver and a 10-year-old female, being thrown from the bike, when they were thrown, they struck a Hyundai Tucson,” said Carey. “Both individuals were transported to (United Hospital Center).”

Carey said both the driver and the youngster suffered injuries. However, he did not believe that the injuries were life threatening.

The driver of the Tacoma received a pair of citations as a result. Carey said the driver was cited for failure to yield and for driving left of center.

The incident led to traffic woes as well. Carey said both lanes were blocked for about 45 minutes, while the lane leading off of Route 50 onto Lodgeville was closed for roughly an hour.

Carey said Bridgeport Officer M. Pernell did the report on the case. He added that the Bridgeport Police were assisted on the scene by the Bridgeport Fire Department and the West Virginia State Police.
