Healthy Bridgeport Rolls Out Web Site; Launch of App, Details for Weight Loss Challenges Coming Soon

By Julie Perine on November 24, 2020

There are a lot of moving parts behind the $100,000-winning Healthy Bridgeport health and wellness plan. Since the announcement was made in late-October that Bridgeport had won The Health Games, components of the four-pronged plan are being fine-tuned so it can be rolled out to the community. The plan has been designed to benefit children, adults and seniors; all focusing on a healthier community and lowering the obesity rate.

The Web site has been unveiled, a site encompassing mind, move and eat, featuring recipes, wellness and fitness tips, health-related blogs and much more. Interact with the site HERE at healthybridgeport.com.

“Check out our Web site and our Facebook page for daily tips and resources, workout and nutrition videos,” said Healthy Bridgeport Team Leader Abby Veigel. “Our team has been working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything is ready, and it will all be brought to the community in a few short weeks. Soon you will have access to the app and be able to sign up for big events, such as the Biggest Loser and 10 Percent Takedown challenges.”

Soon to come is the beta launch of the app on which locals can earn points by incorporating healthy habits. In addition to personal benefits, participants will earn Fitbits and other prizes.  Also just around the corner is the release of a calendar containing dates, deadlines and other pertinent information.

In the meantime, you can earn potential prizes by interacting on the Healthy Bridgeport Facebook page, where you can also read Healthy Bridgeport team member profiles. Like the page, like and/or share a post and you will be in the running for a Fitbit or other prize.

Those participating in the Shinnston Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving Day are asked to post pictures on the Healthy Bridgeport Facebook page or on your own page, tagging #HealthyBridgeport. Photos will be compiled and shared in a gallery on Connect-Bridgeport.

The Health Games is an initiative of Healthy Harrison in conjunction with WVU Medicine UHC, WVU, and The United Way of Harrison County.

“We are excited and honored to be the winners of the 2020 Health Games Festival and are just getting started with the many wonderful things planned for Healthy Bridgeport,” Veigel said.
