Hundreds of WVU Students, Faculty and Staff Build and Create 16 Biking and Hiking Trails Along Falling Run Stream; Ribbon Cutting April 29

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 19, 2017

SUBMITTED BY WVU TODAY:

Hundreds of West Virginia University students, faculty and staff have volunteered their time to help build and create 16 biking and hiking trails along Falling Run Stream, connecting the downtown campus and the WVU Organic Farm.

Volunteers will be working on the trails Saturday and Sunday (April 22-23) and the morning and early afternoon of Saturday, April 29. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will officially open the Falling Run Trails April 29 at 3:30 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m.

“The Falling Run Greenspace will be an accessible, vibrant urban oasis with the potential to become a central park for the heart of Morgantown forging a connection between WVU's Organic Farm and Main Campus,” said Katherine Bolyard, volunteer coordinator of the project. “Ultimately, the long term vision is to provide an alternate connection to the Mileground area.”

The students that have volunteered with this project have left their own personal legacy on the greenspace that will be used for many generations to come.

“They will be able to come back 25 years from now and tell their kids that they helped build these trails,” Bolyard said.
