Man Arrested for Multi-County Pursuit that Saw Him Hit Several Police Vehicles was Using Stolen Jeep

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 05, 2024

According to WDTV, a Barbour County man was arrested after leading police on a chase through Marion and Monongalia counties on Labor Day.

Dustin Mills, 36, of Volga, was the suspect involved in a burglary in Fairmont, which led to the chase, according to the West Virginia State Police.

The Fairmont Police Department began pursuing Mills, who was driving a black Jeep. As he drove into Monongalia County, multiple other agencies joined in the chase, court documents say.

Mills drove at high rates of speed on U.S. Route 19, crossed multiple lanes of traffic in the opposite lane and struck multiple law enforcement vehicles, police said.

One Fairmont police officer was trapped in his vehicle and sustained minor injuries when Mills rammed his car, court documents say.

Mills crashed his vehicle near 321 Dents Run Road, exited the vehicle, began to run and was captured by police and placed under arrest.

After further investigation, police were able to determine that the Jeep was stolen.

Mills is charged with fleeing with reckless indifference, malicious assault on a law enforcement officer and receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle and is currently in the North Central Regional Jail.
