Monongalia County Health Department Sponsors Faith Community Nursing Training

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 10, 2025

The WVU School of Nursing and the Monongalia County Health Department are collaborating to offer scholarships for six West Virginia nurses working in health departments across the state, covering the full cost of the Faith Community Nursing training program.

The funding for these scholarships was provided by NACCHO (National Association of County and City Health Officials), an organization focused on improving community health by empowering and supporting local health departments.

The Monongalia County Health Department received these funds to strengthen faith communities’ capacity to address public health challenges, including vaccine hesitancy.

Through this partnership between NACCHO, the Monongalia County Health Department, and the WVU School of Nursing, six nurses will have the opportunity to complete the nationally recognized Foundations of Faith Community Nursing program through the Westberg Institute at no cost.

This eight-week, fully online course requires no live meetings or travel. Participants who complete the training will earn a national certificate of training as a faith community nurse and 40 hours of nursing continuing professional development.

For more information about the training program or to register for the course, please contact Dr. Angel Smothers, Associate Dean for Community Engagement at the WVU School of Nursing at asmothers@hsc.wvu.edu.
