Perhaps Largest Number of Homes Ever Registered for Saturday's Citywide Yard Sale; Link to List Included

By Jeff Toquinto on July 31, 2024

Things are set for this Saturday’s annual City of Bridgeport Citywide Yard Sale as 130 homes have registered for the event.

Community Development Director Andrea Kerr recently released the list of all of the homes that registered for this year’s event. And once again, it is a large number.

“We easily exceeded 100 homes and the total number is a little higher this year than any I can remember in the past,” said Kerr. “Once the deadline passed, and particularly after the maps were printed, we had multiple people wanting to get added to the list, so we know the number is going to be even higher.”

Along with those who missed the deadline, there are those who take part but do not register. Kerr said there are dozens of households that annually participate without registering.

The city recognizes the time of the Citywide Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, many households will begin to have yard sales on Friday, while others who go on Saturday will start prior to 8 a.m. and conclude after 4 p.m.

“I’m always amazed, but no longer surprised, at the interest in this,” said Kerr. “Last week, we constantly had people contacting us about when to pick this up so they could plan out their neighborhood strategy. There are questions about this across a broad range of areas, but that is one of the most common things people are inquiring for.”

The printed lists can be picked up at the Bridgeport Municipal Building, The Benedum Civic Center, the Bridgeport Public Library, and The Bridge during regular business hours.

Although a huge draw for the community, it does create traffic issues that cause angst among some residents. Kerr reminds those visiting or those in the community who drive and look for deals to be courteous.

“As always, we have coordinated with the (Bridgeport) Police Department,” said Kerr. “They will be out patrolling with extra staff.”

Editor's Note: Photos show people looking for bargains and a bit of the traffic residential areas will see.
