Simpson Elementary Closed Wednesday as Result of Positive COVID-19 Cases; School Reopens Thursday

On Tuesday evening September 15, 2020, working with the local health department, Harrison County Schools has two (2) confirmed positive cases at Simpson Elementary School. The case(s) include one (1) student and one (1) staff member. After conducting the necessary contact tracing and investigations, it was determined that the school would be closed on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 for deep cleaning.
 
Simpson Elementary School will re-open on Thursday, September 17, 2020. The confirmed cases are believed to have resulted from outside of the school and not from infection transmissions within the school. In accordance with privacy laws, information specific to these cases will not be released publicly. However, details are being made available to keep the community informed of the transmission of
COVID-19 locally.
 
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, everyone is urged to follow best health practices as issued by the Governor’s Executive Orders and outlined by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) and the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) guidance. This includes wearing face coverings and practicing social distancing, hand washing, and cleaning protocols regularly.

Harrison County Schools, in consultation with our local health department, will be closing Simpson Elementary Wednesday, September 16, 2020, for the purpose of conducting a full epidemiological investigation, contact tracing, and cleaning due to a positive Covid-19 case.  Staff will not report.  The school will reopen on Thursday, September 17, 2020.
