Twenty Students Prep for Healthcare Career as They Participate in UHC's 2024 Summer Nurse Externship

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on May 25, 2024

The Nurse Externship Program at United Hospital Center (UHC) is a pathway to nursing success for senior nursing students preparing to enter the field of healthcare within the next year.

UHC's goal is to invest in the future of nursing by heightening the knowledge of future nurses, all while strengthening their passion for delivering care. During the 10-week program, externs will spend one-on-one time with nurses on med-surg units, as well as specialty units, to practice nursing skills, facilitate safe and effective care, and develop critical thinking skills.

Upon completion of the program, the externs will continue to work with UHC in hope of retaining them upon graduation. The 2024 program consists of 20 externs from accredited schools both in and out of West Virginia.
