Two Wanted Individuals Taken into Custody by City Police; Additional Charges, Including Arson, Filed

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 10, 2019

FROM OFFICE OF BRIDGEPORT POLICE CHIEF JOHN WALKER:

Early Thursday afternoon, Bridgeport Police responded to a business on Johnson Avenue where a man and woman were being disruptive and refused to leave the business. Prior to the officers’ arrival, the pair fled the business. Officers quickly located the pair and identified them as Derrick John Harbert, 27 years of age of Indiana Ave. Stonewood, and Cheyene Sue Ayoob, 26 years of age of West Pike Street Clarksburg.

During the initial investigation, officers were given false information regarding their identity.  When the identity was established, officers confirmed they were wanted on separate capias from Harrison County. Harbert and Ayoob were taken into custody on the outstanding capias.  In addition to the capias Cheyene Ayoob was charged with Obstructing an Officer and Derrick Harbert was charged with False Evidences, Forgery, etc., of Title and Registration.

While conducting this investigation, additional Bridgeport officers were investigating a break-in to an outbuilding located nearby where the intruders set fire to contents of the building during the early morning hours. Evidence was gathered connecting Derrick John Harbert and Cheyene Sue Ayoob to the burglary and arson of the outbuilding.  Additional charges were Entering without Breaking into a building other then a dwelling and Arson 4th degree.

Both are currently being transported to the Harrison County Magistrate office for arraignment.  Additional charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
