By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 05, 2024

WVU Medicine United Hospital Center (UHC) has earned accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP). UHC becomes one of only a few officially accredited Transition to Practice Programs in West Virginia.

“This accreditation, granted for four years, is a groundbreaking moment for UHC’s graduate nurse program,” said Leslie D. Perine MSN, RN, Director of Professional Practice & Education,?Program Director-Transition to Practice-Graduate Nurse Bridge Program at UHC. “We are honored to join the ranks of only a select number of nursing programs from across the nation who have received this prestigious designation.”?

The ANCC Accreditation program recognizes health care organizations that promote nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes, all while emphasizing the importance of high-quality continuing nursing education (CNE) and skills-based competency programs. Around the world, ANCC-accredited organizations provide nurses with the knowledge and skills to help improve care and patient outcomes.

“UHC’s graduate nurse program showcases education and skills training to assist nurses in developing effective decision-making, sound clinical judgement, and professional performance,” said Stephanie Smart, MSN, RN, Vice President Nursing /CNO. “We are honored to join the elite ranks of these nationally accredited nursing programs.”

The?American Nurses Credentialing Center?(ANCC) is a subsidiary of the?American Nurses Association. ANCC's internationally renowned credentialing programs certify and recognizes healthcare organizations that promote nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes while providing safe, positive work environments. In addition, ANCC accredits healthcare organizations that provide and approve continuing nursing education and accredits transition to practice programs and prepares nurses for new practice roles.
