Off the Shelf: Don't be Puzzled about Activities during Bad Weather as Library has Plenty of Puzzles to Help

By Sharon Saye on January 19, 2022 from Off the Shelf

January is National Puzzle Month! With the weather we have been having lately, nothing sounds better than working on a puzzle while drinking some hot cocoa. The library has over 400 puzzles available for checkout to cardholders.

Puzzles can be checked out for up to two weeks and we ask that you only check out one per family at a time. We have puzzles ranging from 300 pieces to 2,000 pieces in a wide variety of themes, patterns, and seasonal motifs. We even have some children’s puzzles in the children’s area. We have all the popular brands including White Mountain, Cobble Hill, Ravensburger, Buffalo, Melissa & Doug, and many more. We are constantly adding new puzzles so check back frequently for new arrivals!

Some great benefits can be gained from doing puzzles including improved memory, better problem-solving skills, improved visual-spatial reasoning, increased IQ, improved mood and lower stress levels, and increased productivity. If you work on a puzzle with other people, it’s also said to increase your collaboration skills. Not to mention, working on puzzles is a lot of fun! There are so many reasons you should pick up the occasional puzzle and put it together.

If you are in a rush and don’t have time to come in and browse our puzzles for one that catches your eye, we’ve got you covered! Simply give us a call and let us know how many pieces you would like, include a theme if you want, and we will pick one out for you and have it ready for pickup! We also occasionally include withdrawn puzzles in our ongoing Book Sale located in our hallway, so keep an eye out for that. Small donations of gently used puzzles are always welcomed as well.

The official National Puzzle Day is on January 29th this year, so come by the library, pick out a puzzle, and celebrate!
