Off the Shelf: Missing Library during Thanksgiving? Plenty or Resources Still Available Right from Home

By Savanna Draper on November 23, 2022 from Off the Shelf

Although the Bridgeport Public Library will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday beginning on Thursday, November 24th and reopening with regular business hours on Monday, November 28th, there are still plenty of resources available to you right from your home! With your Bridgeport Public Library card, you have access to thousands of eBooks and eAudiobooks, several online databases, and even live book recommendations! Access to all of this can be found on our website, bplwv.org/eresources.

WVDELI (or the Libby app) allows you to access thousands of eBooks and eAudiobooks from wherever you are. This collection includes many of the most popular bestsellers, magazines, comics, and more that you can read on your phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. You can sort by genre or age group. The WVDELI is always open!

If you’re in the mood to do some research, writing, studying, or leisure reading or listening, check out our database and eResource offerings on our website! Utilize Mango Languages to learn a new language, Heritage Quest to do some genealogical research, Science Online to learn more about the world around you, or Freegal to stream or download some music. Whatever you’re interested in, there’s a good chance we may have an eResource that can accommodate you. As always, if you need assistance with anything we offer, do not hesitate to contact the library during regular business hours.

New to our offerings is BookChat! This resource is accessible by clicking on NoveList Plus under the “Reader’s Advisory” tab of our eResource page. BookChat is a reader’s advisory tool that is staffed by trained librarians to provide you with personalized book recommendations. It is staffed (by a real person!) from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST Mondays through Saturdays. Outside of those hours, patrons may send an email to the service and will get a response as soon as possible. If you’re not able to come to the library or if we are closed, please utilize this service to get help with book recommendations!
