Off the Shelf: Movies at the Library

Movies continue showing on our new theater system in the conference room.  On March 25 at 1 p.m. viewers can watch the latest installment in the J. K. Rowling’s “Fantastic Beasts” series with “The Crimes of Grindelwald.”  Runtime is 134 minutes.      
     
On Tuesday, April 2, Mary Poppins’ fans can catch up with her continued adventures when decades after her original visit, the magical nanny returns to help the Banks siblings and Michael’s children through a difficult time in their lives in “Mary Poppins Returns” starring Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel Miranda.  Runtime is 130 minutes.            
 
On Thursday of that week at 1 p.m., the latest comic book adventure is available, “Aquaman.”  Arthur Curry, the human-born heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis played by Jason Mamoa, goes on a quest to prevent a war between the worlds of ocean and land.  Runtime is 143 minutes.         
 
The next day, on Friday, April 5 at 1 p.m., “If Beale Street Could Talk,” based on the James Baldwin novel will be shown.  A woman in Harlem embraces her pregnancy while she and her family struggle to prove her fiancé innocent of a crime.  Regina King won an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.  Runtime is 117 minutes.
 
On April 9 at 1 p.m., “Vice” is available.  It is the story of Dick Cheney who quietly wielded immense power as Vice President to George W. Bush reshaping the country and the globe.  Starring Christian Bale in an astonishing performance, the runtime is 132 minutes. 
             
“The Mule” continues our schedule on Friday, April 12at 1 p.m. starring Clint Eastwood as a 90-year-old horticulturist and Korean War veteran who is caught transporting $3 million worth of cocaine through Illinois for a Mexican drug cartel.  Runtime is 116 minutes.
 
The last movie of April is “On the Basis of Sex” on Friday, April 26 at 1 p.m.  This film tells an inspiring and spirited true story that follows young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she brings a groundbreaking case before the U. S. Court of Appeals.  Runtime is 120 minutes.
