Off the Shelf: Need Something to do for September? Library has 40 Programs for All Age Groups Scheduled

By Savanna Draper on August 30, 2023 from Off the Shelf

This September the library is offering over 40 programs and events for children, teens, families, and adults to enjoy. Now that everyone is back at school and getting adjusted to their normal routine again, there’s no better time to add the library to your weekly schedule. Bring your family and friends to a library program to discover what we have to offer. Many of our programs recur weekly or monthly so you can come back again and again!

For children, teens, and families, this month we are offering a Family Movie Night on September 1 at 5pm. We will be showing Matilda (PG) and will provide popcorn and drinks. Join us for "Switch" It Up on September 2 at 11am where we meet to play games on our Nintendo Switch. Stick around and hang out with Building Club on the same day at 12pm. Every Tuesday at 3pm we host Chess Club, which is perfect for patrons of all ages. Every Wednesday at 12pm we have our All-Ages Storytime where children and caregivers can connect with each other as well as our Children’s Librarian. Bring your child to Creativity Corner on September 11 at 4pm to make some art! We will break out the 3D pens for 3D Doodles on September 20 at 3pm. Due to popular demand, this program will be offered twice this month.

We also have an eventful month coming up for adults! Join us on September 5 at 5:30pm for our monthly writing group, The Write Connection. Every Wednesday at 11am we host our handicraft group Hooks & Needles. We are always accepting new faces into this group! On September 11 at 5:30pm we will have our monthly painting program, Brush Hour. Tech Savvy, our introduction to technology class, will take place on September 13 at 1pm. There will be another offering of this class on a different topic later in the month. Join us for a Matinee Double Feature on September 14 at 1pm for a showing of Book Club, followed by Book Club: The Next Chapter (both rated PG-13.) Popcorn and drinks will be provided.

Our Crochet for Beginners class will be making a coffee cozy on September 18 at 5pm. Perfect for all ages, our American Sign Language Class, Signing Made Easy, will take place on September 19 at 5pm. Our classic mystery book club, Read in Red, will meet on September 21 at 1pm. We will be discussing God Save the Mark by Donald Westlake. A limited number of copies are available at the library for check-out. We will host a Decorative Painting Demonstration by patron MaryAnn Pollutro on September 25 at 5:30pm. Join us for our Genealogy Roundtable on September 27 at 5pm with special guests from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Our fiction book club, Book Talk, will meet on September 28 at 4pm to discuss The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. A limited number of copies are available at the library for check-out. Lastly, our Coding for Adults class will be getting an introduction to Python on September 29 at 5:30pm.

Many of these programs require registration. Please visit our website bplwv.org/events to find our full calendar of events and to register.
