"A Round for the Reservation" Golf Tournament Set for Oct. 9; Proceeds to Help BHS Baseball Program

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 27, 2022

A key fundraiser for the Bridgeport High School baseball team, one of the state’s premier programs, has been set for October.

“A Round for the Reservation” golf tournament will take place on Oct. 9 at Bel Meadow Golf Club.

The annual event helps make one of the state’s top-notch grass fields and complexes stay that way.

“This is crucial for us,” BHS baseball coach Robert Shields said. “We are looking at some beautification projects, the way it looks when you come in.

“The batting cages, you never know when you are going to have to replace the fencing, the netting for the batting cages. You are constantly having to upgrade that stuff.”

Last year, funds helped improve the mound and home plate area, making sure they were built up the proper way. They also were able to have the field laser graded for the first time in a few years.

This year’s “A Round for the Reservation” will once again be on a Sunday. Last year marked the first time it was on a Sunday and Shields said he was pleased with that change.

“I was a little leery moving it off the normal Saturday but we had a great turnout,” Shields said. “We had a nice turnout. It was the best fundraiser we’ve had.”

Many of the other details for the event are the same. There will be a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m. with a four-man scramble format.

There will also be a catered meal after the tournament.

The entry fee for the tournament is $100 per player, $400 per four-man team. There will be hole sponsors for $100 and the opportunity to offer a donation of any amount as a Tribe sponsor.

Prizes will be awarded for longest drive and closest to the pin. Mulligans will also be available for purchase and there will be a 50/50 drawing.

To register or get more information, contact Rick Johnson at 304-669-0685 or Robert Marra at 304-669-1979.

A registration form can also be accessed HERE
