BHS Cross Country Teams to Compete in County Championship Meet at South Harrison High School

The Bridgeport High School cross country teams will take part in the Harrison County championship meet today at South Harrison High School.
The county meet will begin with the girls race at 4:30 p.m. and the boys to follow at approximately 5:10 p.m.
There will be an awards ceremony following the boys race with first and second place teams receiving honors along with the Top 10 individuals. The Top 10 individuals will also receive all-county recognition.
In addition to the awards, seniors from all county teams will be recognized.
The Indians were last in action at the Bearcat Invitational at West Taylor Elementary School.
The BHS girls finished fourth, while the boys came in third place. Morgantown swept the team results, while a pair of Big 10 Conference runners captured the individual titles with Buckhannon-Upshur’s Samantha Shreve winning the girls race with a time of 18:34.82 and Grafton’s TJ Niggemyer winning the boys race at 16:05.53.
For the Indians, three girls finished in the Top 25 with Mikaela DeMoss leading the way with a sixth-place time of 20:14.76.
Ash McBrayer came in 17th place with a time of 21:26.39 and Sara Rexroad was 25th with a time of 22:21.86.
Also for the BHS girls, Annelise Mace was 46th at 23:39.06 and Chloe Marsh was 67th at 26:51.49.
For the BHS boys, five runners placed in the Top 26. William Northey led the way with a 14th place time of 16:48.20.
Ethan Smell finished 19th with a time of 17:02.28. Parker Muncy and Diego Perez were 21st and 22nd with respective times of 17:04.46 and 17:07.51. Quentin Collier came in 26th place overall with a time of 17:35.54.
Three more BHS boys placed in the Top 50 with Kieran Moore in 35th at 18:26.27, Daniel Yearego in 41st at 18:48.27 and Graham Northey at No. 50 with a time of 19:20.14.
Other BHS boys who completed the race were Cole Phillips at No. 54 with a 19:35.13, Jackson Holtz at No. 61 with a 19:57.48, Micah Britton at No. 67 with a 20:14.33, Aidan Shipley at No. 95 with a 22:32.56, Brenton Cable at No. 107 with a 24:06.34 and Jeremy Lunsford at No. 116 with a 25:51.95.
DeMoss and Northey are each ranked in the Top 30 amongst Class AAA runners. DeMoss is No. 28 and Northey is No. 29.
Both figure to be in contention for the individual title today along with a handful of top-ranked runners in Class AA with Lincoln’s Raley Cochran (No. 7), South Harrison’s Savannah Holden (No. 10), South Harrison’s Dakota James (No. 25) and Robert C. Byrd’s Cianna McKenna (No. 26) on the girls side and Liberty’s Austin Shuman (No. 19) and Lincoln’s Adrian Bott (No. 25) on the boys side.
