BHS Golf Team to Compete in Class AAA Region I Championship at The Pines in Morgantown

The Bridgeport High School golf team will be in postseason play on Monday in Morgantown.
 
The Class AAA Region I championship match will take place at The Pines Country Club. Action will begin at 9 a.m. Joining Bridgeport will be Brooke, John Marshall, Buckhannon-Upshur, Preston, University, Morgantown and Wheeling Park.
 
The top two teams from each of the four regions will advance to the state tournament at Oglebay Golf Resort in Wheeling (Oct. 3-4). Additionally, the top two finishers not on either of the qualifying teams will also earn spots in the state meet.
 
The Indians are coming off a week where they finished fourth in the Big 10 Conference champioinships before closing out the regular season with a victory against Preston in a dual match.
 
Colton Gerhards finished seventh overall at the Big 10 match at Tygarts Lake Golf Course with a score of 79, pacing the Indians which finished with a team score of 330.
 
Fairmont Senior won the Big 10 team title with a score of 316. East Fairmont was the runner-up at 322 and Grafton was led by low medalist Aiden Sheme, who shot a 75, en route to a third-place finish at 323.
 
Also for BHS, Audrey Kerr shot an 81 to finish 13th overall. Brayden Stutler and Tanner Straley were tied for 21st with scores of 85 each.
 
Anthony Hazey shot an 88 to finish in a tie for 28th and Scott Why was 30th with a score of 89.
 
Last Thursday, the Indians edged Preston by two strokes, 182-184.
 
Vaughan Evans had a 42 to lead BHS and was followed by Hazey and Cameron Zannino, who each shot a 46, Scott Why and Michael Hadjis who both finished with a 48 and Tyler Randolph who shot a 51.
