West Virginia State's Nate Paulsen was named MEC's Player of the Week for Baseball, presented by The Health Plan. Paulsen drove nine runs in over the week helping to propel WVSU to a 4-2 record this week and securing the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Mountain East Championship Tournament this week.
Paulsen is from Bridgeport and a state championship graduate of Bridgeport High School and the highly successful Indians baseball program.
Paulsen went 7-for-18 (.389) at the plate, collecting 2 home runs (solo and two-run), a double, nine RBIs, seven runs scored, a walk, a stolen base, and three sacrifice flies.
He drove in runs in five of the six contests, contributing to victories over Davis & Elkins (2-1, 16-5) and Charleston (4-1, 9-5).
His steady production played a major role in WVSU's series win over the University of Charleston and road sweep at Davis & Elkins College.
WVSU's opening round game will be played Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Go-Mart Park against the Frostburg State Bobcats.
