Getting to Know Kaitlin Pappas; Question and Answer Session with Standout Distance Runner

By Chris Johnson on March 12, 2023

What’s your favorite movie?
I think Elf.

Who is the best high school athlete you have competed against?
Claire von Boetticher from University she’s one of my friends and she’s very good. She’s kind of right where I’m at and I think that kind of pushes me.

Favorite subject in school?
This is a hard one but I think it’s science. I like it because it’s hands on and I’m not just sitting there.

Any pre-race superstitions or rituals?
I have to make sure I always stretch and eat something with carbs in it.

What race or meet of your career sticks out the most?
The Chick-fil-A Invitational last year because that’s where I set a PR (personal record) and where I had the biggest jump from a previous PR. Also the Big 10 last year just because I was projected to get 10th and I got third.

How do best you describe Coach Lutyens?
He’s a great coach because after my sophomore year he ramped up my mileage in training and I noticed my times just suddenly dropped and I’m thankful for that.

Celebrity Crush?
Honestly, I don’t have one.

Who’s the funniest runner on the BHS cross country or track teams?
I’d have to say Colton (Reed) is.

If they would let you have a walk-up song, what’s playing?
This is a hard one because I listen to so much music but it would probably be That Don’t Impress Me Much by Shania Twain

Where’s one place in the world you have never been to that you would like to visit?
Paris

Spring is coming up, what’s the most exciting thing about this time of year?
I’m excited to plant some flowers. I like tulips. I like cosmos. Those are probably my top two favorites.

Favorite meal?
Cajun pasta.

What’s one event in track you would like to try at least once that you have never tried?
Probably pole vault.

Favorite pro or college athlete?
Simone Biles.

Favorite pro or college team?
University of Arkansas

What’s one thing it seems like everybody you know likes but you can’t stand?
Harry Styles

Who are three artists everybody should have in their music library?
ABBA, The Steps and Madonna

What is your go-to concession stand order?
A pretzel with cheese on it.

You wake up tomorrow as a superhero. What is your power?
To be invisible.

What is the most important thing being an athlete at BHS has taught you?
To be self-disciplined.

There’s a young kid in the community just getting into running what advice do you give him or her?
Just don’t give up and you might not PR at every race but just keep doing it and you will see improvement.
