Photos: BHS Volleyball Team, BMS Girls Soccer, Football Teams Honored at City Council Meeting

By Chris Johnson on December 05, 2024

A trio of athletic teams, one from Bridgeport High School and two from Bridgeport Middle School, were honored during Monday’s City Council meeting.

Teams recognized were the BHS volleyball team and the girls soccer and football teams from BMS.

The Bridgeport High School volleyball team recently capped a 52-8-2 season by winning the Class AAA state championship. It marked the second title in head coach Ali Burton’s tenure, the previous one coming in 2018 while in AA.

Myleigh Smell, a senior on this year’s state championship team, was also recognized for being named the state’s volleyball player of the year. Additionally, Smell and teammates Kaylee Enfield, Salam Rajjoub, Calleigh Morgan and Addison Veigel were recognized for all-state and/or all-conference honors.

The Bridgeport Middle School girls soccer team was honored for a season where the Braves outscored their opposition by a combined score of 72-2 and won the Mid Mountain 10 Conference Championship.

In football, the Braves recently wrapped a perfect 8-0 season with a win against University to win the NC7 Conference Championship for the fourth consecutive year.
