From the Bench: Former Pee Wee White Player, BHS State Football Champion Step Closer to NFL Roster

By Jeff Toquinto on May 04, 2025 from Sports Blog

Under normal circumstances, Bridgeport High School graduate Josh Wojciechowicz would be with family, extended family, and friends over the course of this weekend into the next. After all, Wojciechowicz is set to receive his master’s degree from the Colorado School of Mines in nuclear engineering and science.

He will not be walking across the stage to get his well-earned moment in the sun on May 9. Although he is a lock to graduate, as of this writing he will even have to take a final in the days ahead thanks to the kindness of a professor who agreed to push it back.

As hard as it is to graduate from the Colorado School of Mines and as rare as it is to earn a master’s in nuclear engineering and science, Wojciechowicz will be missing in action at graduate due to something that is even harder to accomplish.

The former Bridgeport Pee Wee White standout, who also happens to be a member of the 2019 BHS state football championship team, is on the road at this very moment. In fact, he is in Maryland – pretty far even as the crow flies from Colorado.

Wojciechowicz is at the Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills, Maryland. The facility just happens to double as the Baltimore Ravens training camp site and where the team’s off-season workouts take place.

Right now, it is where the Ravens are holding their minicamp. If you have not figured it out, Wojciechowicz is one of those who have been invited to be at the camp.

For a quick reminder, he is not there as a fan, consultant, or looking for a way to provide the facility with nuclear energy. He is there looking to become a member of the Ravens. This is after a five-year run at CSM where he was not only part of one of the best NCAA Division II programs in the country but also became one of the best long snappers in the country at any level of college football.

Wojciechowicz knew that before the NFL draft took place. He knew it after it was over and, as he anticipated, he would not be drafted as long snappers generally are not. When it was over, he was looking for two opportunities – to be signed as an undrafted free agent or get invited to a minicamp.

As it turned out, it was the minicamp. In fact, he had multiple offers.

The current one with the Ravens began Saturday (May 3) and concludes Monday. The second is part of another three-day minicamp that sees him flying out Wednesday to take part in the Tennessee Titans’ minicamp that only uses one of its three days for specialists – it will be this Thursday – such as long snappers at the camp.

Wojciechowicz actually met with 28 teams leading up to where he is now. Following the draft, his agent heard from the Bengals, the Raiders, the Chiefs, the Packers, and the Patriots along with Baltimore and Tennessee. Due to the minicamps all running at roughly the same time, he had to choose two and, collaborating with his agent for what appears to be the best opportunity, Wojciechowicz is looking at Baltimore and Tennessee to make an NFL roster.

Already, Wojciechowicz is further than nearly every single high school athlete in the country. And he is actually in the place two former Bridgeport players have been (brothers Donnie and Tim Lindsey who ironically were also long snappers). Now, he is looking to become the first Indian to make it to the big stage of the NFL.

“I feel good, and I thank the Lord every day that He has given me this opportunity. Football is such a plus in my life and to be able to get to put a helmet on one more time, and hopefully a lot more times, is a blessing,” said Wojciechowicz. “I understand the odds are long, even longer as a long snapper and a specialist, but that door isn’t closed until it’s fully closed.”

If Wojciechowicz does well at either camp, the Ravens or the Titans can bring him in to fall camp and eventually into the preseason. The process, as he knows too well, is a difficult one.

“If it’s supposed to happen, it will happen. I know things can go really wrong or really right, and it may not make a difference because some teams use the same long snapper for years,” he said. “One thing I am confident of is that I won’t be nervous. When you enjoy doing what you’re doing, you kind of do your thing and black out because you understand the focus that’s needed.”

As of earlier this week Wojciechowicz was the only long snapper at the Ravens camp, but he knew that could change. He knows that he will have a lot of eyes on him at both camps and, in particular, all the coaches will be watching in Tennessee during the one day set for specialists.

“The more eyes on you, the better if you’re bringing a specialty to camp,” said Wojciechowicz. “I’m confident in my abilities and I’ll be repping with some of the top players in the country. I’m okay with whatever happens because it’s in God’s hands.”

A lot of eyes would have been on him this coming Friday walking the stage. Instead, he will be on an airplane returning to Colorado.

“I got to walk for my undergraduate and got to experience the college graduation. When the draft got closer and you could see the dates for minicamps, I told my parents I was betting on myself that I would get an invitation after praying over it,” Wojciechowicz said. “I told them to cancel everything regarding the graduation, and now I have another test in front of me that I hope to make the most of.”

If that does not happen, he has a rather good fallback plan. Even better, the plan includes a rather good future employer.

Wojciechowicz has a job lined up with a military defense contractor in Amarillo, Texas as soon as he graduates. And if he makes it to the NFL preseason, the job will be waiting until the final cuts. If he gets past that, the NFL will be his future employer.

“Everything has worked out,” Wojciechowicz said. “Getting to the NFL is a dream, but I’m fine no matter how it works out. The journey has been incredible.”
