The Grapevine: Cherishing Your Mother Every Single Day

By Rosalyn Queen on May 09, 2019 from The Grapevine

There are many exciting things happening in the month of May but none more meaningful than Mother’s Day.  Sometimes I think it is sad to have just one day a year that reminds us to pay tribute to our mothers.  There are many forms of mothers that require our attention.  It could be our birth mother or the woman who raised us.  It could be our grandmothers or the mothers of our grandchildren.  It could be our favorite aunt or the mother of our best friend who has always been there for us or it could be our neighbor who we always knew was there if we needed an ear to listen to us or give us trusted advice.  This list can go on and on but this is a good start.

Do you think it is just enough to take mom out to luncheon this special day?  Or Perhaps a dozen roses relieves you of having to take the time for her.  They can be delivered without any effort from you excerpt to pay the bill.  How about a gift card to the Spa or a restaurant slipped into a card and mailed to her?  Well speaking from the heart of a mother with four wonderful children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild, I would love all the above.  But first I would like. A weekly visit at my home, an invitation to McDonalds for a cup of coffee and deep conversations and how about a movie once a month or a drive down to the ice cream shop in Fairmont?  I know a good excuse not to do any of this is your busy schedule, but do you think your mom was too busy to feed you three times a day for 18 years or too busy to wash your clothes or to attend your school functions and a million other things. Deep in your heart you know the answer is no so I urge you to make a promise to honor mom regularly and not only Mother’s Day. Do not wait until it is too late and the only thing you can do is place a plastic flower on her final resting place. Speaking from experience there will be many times when you will wish for just one more conversation. My sincere best wishes for a Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers.

Another exciting event the first Saturday in May is the Kentucky Derby.  Having been there several years ago this is one of the most exciting two minutes in sports history.  If you have a bucket list, this should be on it.  The Derby experience gives you the opportunity to wear that beautiful hat while sipping a mint julep. Since the Derby is over why not plan a party around the Preakness and the Belmont.  Get all dressed up and place your bet. I can truly say I did it all and remember all of it.  My theory was to bet on all the horses, which I did, there were18 and of course one of mine did win and I think I broke out even as I only bet 2.00 on each horse.  There is no animal more beautiful than those horses as the line up for that 1 1/8 mile run.  Get ready for the "Run for The Roses."

Get ready for all those things happening in May And get ready to have a wonderful summer. Take care, keep in touch and until next week "Now You Have Heard It Through the Grapevine"
