The Grapevine: Moving Back Home May Be a Full Circle Moment But the Memories are What Matter

By Rosalyn Queen on September 29, 2022 from The Grapevine

The old saying “What goes around comes around” has certainly come true for me.  This past week I moved from my beloved apartment in Bridgeport to my first home in East View some 60 years ago.

Now you might wonder why on earth I would do this.  Well part of the answer is that lately I have become a little feeble and although we have all of these aids, I still have the fear of falling and not being found.

Next, no matter what I am always an East View girl.  My two sisters and two of my nieces live there.  There are not too many of my school chums left but many of their children are here and they have welcomed me back just as I opened my home to them many years ago.

I skipped a part. I am living with my son in our original home place.  What memories I have of this house that Fray and I built some sixty years ago.  Both my boys and girls came home from the hospital, and they went to school from this house for twelve years.

I remember all the birthday parties with all their friends and cousins.  After school they went off to college or to work to begin another phase of their lives.  I will always remember my beautiful daughters coming down the front stairs in their beautiful wedding gowns, that I had made.

After college they left East View to start their own lives and make their own memories.  This is the house that I welcomed my grandchildren too.

Now at 82 I am back home with Marty. And just about every move brings back a memory.  How wonderful it is to have the opportunity to relive these memories.  There are a few changes, but a deck has been added and this really provides me a place to sit and enjoy my neighbors.  I have been gone for about twenty years but time went so fast I hardly remember what transpired.

The most wonderful part is and I say it with a happy heart, “I am home.”  I wish I could see Tina and Barbie practicing cheers and John Romano perched on my freezer spilling his heart out to me, and the many others who made our home their home.  If I never thanked all of them I say it now.  It is your memories that fill me with joy.

There are probably many of you who cannot come full circle but you can never be robbed of your memories.  At 82 what else do we have?  You might have a few bad memories, but do not think about them, just like a radio turn them off.

Have a happy October, stay healthy and happy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
