The Grapevine: Sweet Italian Tradition by Way of State Tradition and Plenty of Other Holiday News, Notes

By Rosalyn Queen on November 11, 2021 from The Grapevine

What is the most asked question this time of year?  Well, most certainly, what do you want for Christmas? Or it could be what do you need?  And I would venture to say it is nothing.  But I have a suggestion that will fulfill every person on your list.

The PWA will be making Pita Piata on November 29 and 30.  You can call 304-624-6881 to reserve your pita.  We will be making the pitas on those dates, and they will be ready for pick up on the following dates.

Due to the generosity of Everything Fiesta in Flatwoods (a Fiesta Ware outlet store), each pita will be placed on a seven-inch Fiesta plate and wrapped in cellophane and tied with a holiday ribbon.  Keep several of these handy for gifts for those you may have forgotten about and for everyone in your family.

A little secret that will make these the best in the area is that we will be using honey straight from a local farm.  The pitas will be selling for $10. No more of those boxes of candy for your staff, surprise them with this Italian delicacy. Do not miss out on this limited offer.

Please help our YWPA with their Christmas stockings for veterans.  Call 304-624-6881 to reserve a stocking for you to fill.  They will appreciate your help.

The pandemic if it continues will make hermits out of all of us.  The PWA is trying to offer an alternative to help us make it through the winter.  On Nov. 17 we will be having our monthly member meeting and it will be a luncheon with a holiday menu.  Please feel free to bring a friend.  If you are working, we will be glad to excuse you in an hour.  To observe pandemic restrictions, we will observe spaced seating.  Call the center to make a reservation so we will know how much to prepare.  It will be great to mix with your PWA friends.

We are going to try again! On Sunday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. we will have our holiday meeting.  We will have our installation of officers and observe our 100th anniversary.  This will be a great way to welcome in the holiday season.

And we are planning a great holiday dinner prepared by Johnny Joe Madia.  We also hope to have a few of the other businesses who will be observing their 100th anniversary come celebrate with us. Sponsors for our anniversary are Davis Funeral Home, the family of Diane Urcheck, and Laura Goff Davis.

I hope you will be the lucky one to win a Christmas wreath with more than $500 worth of gift cards on it.  Raffle tickets are $1 and will be raffled on Dec. 12.  We will also be raffling off the red, white, and black quilt. Tickets for it are six for $5.

Look for us at the Clarksburg Christmas parade.  We will be participating in the holiday activities.  Get in the spirit with us.  It is time to get out of this pandemic rut and welcome in the holiday season.  It is now time to pay your dues.  We can get caught up for the next year.

There is so much that could be said about the late Tommy Thomas and most of it has been said. There are many memories but one I will always have Is Tommy and Susan on their wedding day. How happy they were and how that smile lit up the church.  My condolences to Susan and the family.

The PWA Food Bank is still in operation as is the YWPA homeless food cabinet.  We can use donations at any time.  Have your organization donate a can of food at your next meeting.

Gear up for the cold weather, it is coming, take care stay healthy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”

Editor's Note: File photo shows Rosalyn Queen, far right, making some of the famous pita piatas.
