The Grapevine: Talk with a Harrison County Legend, a PWA Event and a Mention of Joe DeFazio's Health

By Rosalyn Queen on August 18, 2020 from The Grapevine

This past week I received an. Email from my good friend, Norm Julian, a native of Harrison County.  He advised me he was still using my cookbook.  I was so happy to hear from him and it made me wander just what recipes he was using.

Since he is a great gardner, I thought that he probably was referring to the minestra, tiella, all the Swiss chard and zucchini recipes.  These items are abundant in our gardens and if you do not have a garden, I bet you have a neighbor who will share.

I had heard that.there was no jar lids to be found in our area.  After my own search I found this to be true, so I got online and ordered several dozen. I have not received them yet but will advise you when they come. They were a little pricey.  I want to be ready in the event I get some mushrooms.

Hey Norm thanks for the note and stay healthy.

On Wednesday, August 26, the PWA will be hosting a get together to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave woman the right to vote.  In keeping with the pandemic, quarantine it will be a small gathering.

At 10:30 a.m. the Harrison County Commission will present a proclamation.  Expected to be present will be women who have held elected offices in the county and those who have participated in the election process. A keynote speaker will present-a brief history of those women who fought so hard to get this amendment passed.

This event is a part of those being presented in coordination with Secretary of State, Mac Warner’s office. Mask wearing and social distancing will be observed.  Myself, serving as the PWA President, and Elinda Carson, PWA Director, and Betty Waddy are chairing this event.

Guess what?  My other son Joe DeFazio called me the other day and it was a highlight for me.  Jill says he is progressing well, and I intend to visit with him soon.

Please stay healthy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.
