The Grapevine: The Restoring of My Faith in Mankind

By Rosalyn Queen on February 08, 2024 from The Grapevine

Over the past several weeks my faith in mankind has been restored and I want to share these two incidents with you and see if you do not agree with me.

First, last week I was on my way to the Post Office and then I was going to the Clarksburg Lions Club meeting.  It was a pretty Friday morning and I decided that I would drive although I do limit my driving.  I figured I was driving about 30 miles an hour when I heard a boom and it appeared that my front passenger tire had blown out and seconds later another boom and my back passenger tire blew out.  I stopped immediately and pulled as close to the curb; not wanting to drive for fear of ruining the rim.

Immediately a young man appeared at my window and advised me that I had two blown out tires and that he was behind me when it happened. He was directing traffic around me and advised me that he would stay with me until someone came.

Being a member, I called AAA and they said they would send a wrecker.  The wrecker arrived in less than 30 minutes. The gentleman continued to direct traffic and his wife, and two young daughters came to my car and talked to me. I learned they were from Grafton, but I did not get their names. A very polite Clarksburg policeman came and was also very nice.

The wrecker service was A&S Towing, and the driver was also a gem.  He hooked my car up, put me in his cab, and took us both to the tire shop.  Long story short, everything is okay and a big thanks to three great guys.

My next incident was several weeks ago when I became concerned about my cousin Donna June Winslow who lives in Webster, New York. Donna had been sick and the last time she called me she wanted to tell me she was in the hospital, and she would keep in touch as she felt better.

Three days passed and I did not hear from her so I tried to call her but I had the wrong number.  I waited another day and still had no contact. Webster is a little suburb off of Rochester. I did not know the name of the hospital.  So, I did what I thought was best.  I called the Webster police.  I got a 911 line saying what is your emergency?  I became a little alarmed thinking I might be in trouble.  Very quickly I explained my situation.  I gave him my name and told him I was from West Virginia and that I was very concerned about my cousin Donna.  He asked for her address and advised me someone would call me. A few minutes later my phone rang, and it was Donna.  The policeman told her “call your cousin in West Virginia.” Thank you to a polite and helpful policeman.

Everything is right in our world.  Do not let a bad apple spoil the whole bushel.  God bless these people who passed through my life and made it better.

Take care stay healthy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
