The Grapevine: Thoughts on November, Thanksgiving and Unpleasant Election Comments on Facebook

By Rosalyn Queen on November 05, 2020 from The Grapevine

It was only yesterday that we were welcoming in October and now here is November.

The first of October found me celebrating my birthday and Leslie, Dixon and I were off to Harpers Ferry for several days.  The leaves were beautiful, and it was great to get away for a few days.

Next my brother Bill and his wife were here for a week and it was great to spend time with them.  We did complete a task that we wanted to get done and that was marking our grandfather’s grave at Monongah and purchasing a stone for it.  We really enjoyed spending time together and I hated to see them go back.

Our first task for November is turn our clocks back.  We hear a lot of people complaining about this, but it really does not bother me.  I am happy to be able to observe 24 hours a day no matter how they fall.

By the time you read this, election will be over.  I won a few and lost a few but I am sure happy to know that all those terrible comments on Facebook will be over.  I enjoy reading Facebook and keeping up with all my friends, their health, and their families.  I just do not understand why individuals want to write all those terrible things about the candidates. But to each his own.

November finds us preparing for Thanksgiving. I know the pandemic dictates how we must celebrate, but I hope that you might be able to get together as a family.  If no one is positive, space out the seating between the dining area and the living room.  Be thankful to be together.  You never know when you will be able to get together again.

November is also a great month for soup.  I fixed vegetable and chicken soup, my neighbor, Carl, made chili and Marty invited me to lunch and had clam chowder from Sam’s Club, and all was delicious.

The PWA will be having a holiday bake sale.  You will be able to get all those great items you enjoy for the holidays.  The bake sale is Dec. 4.  For info call 304-624-6881.  The PWA food bank is very busy and we are helping a lot of people in our area.  If you wish to donate items, we would surely appreciate them.

Stay healthy and happy, and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.
