The Grapevine: Watching Nature, Coffee with Elected Officials and a Past WVU Athletic Director and More

By Rosalyn Queen on June 04, 2020 from The Grapevine

I have spent a lot of time on my little back patio this past week.  I have had a lot of enjoyment watching the squirrels get in the bird feeder.  Three of them got stuck in the feeder, it came down and rolled down the hill.  It was quite comical watching me retrieve it.  I decided to get it away from the trees, so I hung it on a black wrought iron pole, but I am still waiting on the birds to come feed from it.  My pansies are hanging from the pole also and add a little color to my back area.

Last year I promised myself that I would not plant vegetables as I did not have any luck, but this hard head of mine decided I would try it again.  My first adventure was with the basil.  It took three tries before I finally got the plant to take and as of today I think I will have some nice fresh basil for my tomato salads.  In early spring while shopping somewhere I ran across a seed display and purchased some tomato, pepper and zucchini seeds.  I put them in a drawer and forgot about them, but this week I decided I would try planting them in containers on my patio.  So now I have three containers of plants that I hope will bear fruit for me.  I truly think that I should have invested into a potted plant that would have furnished me with enough vegetables. I hope I will have good news to report later this summer.

My back porch faces into a little wooded area and this provides me with many hours of enjoyable animal watching.  To me there is nothing more enjoyable than drinking a nice cup of coffee while watching nature.

Most evenings you can find me with my son, Mike, sitting outside at Almost Heaven enjoying a cup of coffee and sharing friendship.  This past week Bobbie Warner showed up with her neighbor Ladonna and her husband, and Ed and Mona Pastilong.  As older folks do we settled the woes of the world and relived our past activities.  Occasionally we are joined with Jeff and Jeannie Jenkins and Jason and Sarah Young. Ben Queen will join us when his schedule permits and then we have enjoyable conversations with anyone who might be out for their evening desert or coffee. Lovely place to spend an evening.

I hope that we will soon be over this pandemic and the best we can wish for is that we all remain healthy.  This past week I did attend mass and was so happy to do so.  Maybe we are returning to some sort of normalcy.

Keep busy, enjoy the sounds of summer, take care and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine. “
