The Locavore Next Door - Plane (Re)View

By Carrie Robinson on September 22, 2012 from The Locavore Next Door

Monday was the soft opening of Plane View, the newest restaurant to occupy the second floor of the North Central West Virginia Regional Airport.  I was tipped off by an article on the opening from Connect-Bridgeport, and felt it was my duty as the local foods blogger to go check out the newest eatery in town.

The ambiance left a little to be desired.  There is really no décor presently.  (I could definitely see a World War II era aviation decorating scheme working here though.)  There are plans in the works to add a flat screen television or two for game days.  And of course, there is also the panoramic view of the runway from the floor-to-ceiling windows of the restaurant.  But what was lacking in atmosphere was more than made up for by the food.  And that is mostly why you visit a restaurant, right?

My husband and I started out our meal with the Deep Fried Pickles served with a side of ranch.  I am a connoisseur of fried pickles (really, I am!). The pickle spears were coated in a nice beer batter and fried golden brown, and the portion size was perfect for two people to share.

I ordered the Italian Burger with a side of the beer battered fries.  I am pretty particular about my burgers, and rarely order one when eating out.  But when I saw that Plane View’s Italian Burger came smothered in Oliverio’s peppers and provolone cheese served on a thick Italian bun, I had to give it a go.  And I am glad that I did.  The burger was one of the best ones I have had (other than at my own home) in a long while.  The fries are made in-house, and were crispy and seasoned well.

My husband had the Steak Hoagie with the signature Oliverio’s peppers as well.  While he said that it is not the best steak hoagie he has had locally, it did rank right up there.

Plane View plans to offer delivery to local businesses in the area.  You can call 304-842-9449 to place an order, Monday through Friday 10am to 10pm.  They offer a variety of sandwiches, hoagies, burgers, salads, and pizza.  You can actually take a peek at their menu by visiting their Facebook page here- https://www.facebook.com/pages/Plane-View/249237808529100.

Stop in and give them a try.  I have a feeling that their atmosphere will catch up with their delicious food before too long.
