Another National Restaurant Brand, which has Site in City, Facing Financial Trouble with Bankruptcy Likely

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on October 28, 2024

According to multiple media reports, TGI Fridays is likely heading for bankruptcy. The filing could come any day within the next few weeks.

The restaurant chain is nearly 60 years old. It opened its first restaurant in 1965 in Manhattan.

One of the first media outlets to report the upcoming filing of paperwork for bankruptcy was Bloomberg. However, they still hope to emerge as an operating company once they file and work through Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The outlet also said plans are not official at this point.

Although its first restaurant was in New York, the casual dining eatery is based in Dallas. Reports say the report is not a total surprise as up to 50 restaurants closed in the United States this year. The business has 215 restaurants in the United States as well as more outside of the borders. In fact, internationally the number is greater than 600 eateries.

Other casual dining restaurants with national names have also filed for bankruptcy this year. They include Buca di Beppo, and Italian-style restaurant, and seafood restaurant Red Lobster. Red Lobster has a location in Morgantown.

There has been no recent announcement regarding any additional closures. As for a local impact, that is also an unknown.

TGI Fridays has a Bridgeport location. It is situated at the White Oaks Development.
