Initial List of Households Participating in Bridgeport's 2021 City-Wide Yard Sale Show Numbers are Down

By Jeff Toquinto on July 14, 2021

The initial list is out. And the numbers are down – way down.

Bridgeport’s annual City-Wide Yard Sale, which took a hiatus last year due to COVID-19, only had 21 homes registered on the first list put out on the city’s Facebook page. Typically, the city has close to a hundred homes register.

The good news? Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr said that she anticipates the list to grow – and it already has.

“Since we posted the initial list, we had at least 15 more register,” said Kerr.

Some more good news? There is still time to get your home added to the list for the August 7 event that runs from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Kerr said people can register their homes through the end of today – by midnight – by emailing her your address to akerr@bridgeportwv.com.

The names gathered by that time will be included on the printed list that will begin to see distribution early next week. Kerr said the list will be placed at various city and city-related buildings including the Municipal Complex, Benedum Civic Center, Bridgeport Public Library, The Bridge, and the Greater Bridgeport Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“While (today) is the deadline to get your home on the list, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a yard sale,” said Kerr. “It just means your address won’t be on the city list. We have dozens that do the yard sale each year that are not on the list.”

The list will also feature the names, addresses, and phone numbers of city restaurants.

“I think the numbers are down for a lot of different reasons,” said Kerr. “Most of them are related to COVID.”

Kerr said many people who were at home last year during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic cleaned their homes out and got rid of many items. She said a recent spring cleanup where residents got rid of items, as well as some people simply being hesitant to have strangers come onto their property amidst COVID are also likely reasons.

The final list of names is expected to be posted online in the next few days. Check the City of Bridgeport’s Facebook page, as well as Connect-Bridgeport, for the list.

Kerr said the hours that are set are those recognized by the city. She said individuals can run their yard sales as early and as late as they want.

List of the first 21 is shown below.
