Bridgeport Middle Softball Splits Doubleheader at Pendleton County

This past Saturday, the Bridgeport Middle Lady Braves traveled over the mountains and through the woods to play Pendleton County Middle School in a doubleheader of softball action. This is the first meeting between these two teams.
 
In the first game of the doubleheader, BMS opened the scoring in the top of the first. Julie Hall and Chloe Via reached base safely and each stole a base. Hall scored on an infield ground out by Molly Frenzel and Via crossed the plate on a single by Payton Fisher.
 
The Pendleton County Lady Wildcats scored six runs in the bottom of the first. Five walks, two hits and three BMS infield errors led to the scoring.
 
In the top half of the third, Via singled, stole second and scored on a single off the bat of Frenzel. That cut the deficit to 6-3.
 
PCMS extended its lead to 8-3 on the bottom of the third. 
 
In their half of the fourth, the Lady Braves scored one run with a leadoff walk to Nora Martin. Zoey Raymond entered the game as a courtesy runner for Martin. She came around to score on a Lady Wildcats throwing error.
 
In the top of the fifth, Via reached on a walk with one out. She stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error on the steal. With two out, Fisher walked and stole second. An infield single plated Via and advanced Fisher to third. Fisher scored the second run of the inning on a steal of home. The scoreboard read PCMS 8 and BMS 6.
 
The Lady Wildcats scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 11-6. PCMS put the game on ice in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff double, two BMS infield errors, a dropped third strike, and another double to close out the scoring. The final score was PCMS 14 and BMS 6.
 
In game two, the Lady Braves took an early lead and never looked back. A one-out triple by Amelia Green started things off. That was followed by four PCMS fielding errors, two walks and a single by Samara Smith. After half an inning, BMS was up 5-0.
 
In the top of the second, Green singled to center and stole second. Two outs later she scored on an RBI single by Brianna Bailey.
 
The Lady Wildcats got on the scoreboard with a single run in the bottom half of inning number two. A leadoff triple and a one out single brought home the run.
 
In the third, PCMS scored one run. A one out BMS infield error and a single contributed the scoring. The score was BMS 6 and PCMS 3.
 
In the fourth, BMS saw Aubree Owens take a one out walk followed by a single by Sydnie Buffington. Owens scored on a single by Raylee Hawkins. Scarlett Callison walked to load the bases. Smith singled to bring Buffington home and keep the bases loaded. Green walked and Hawkins scored to give BMS a 9-3 lead.
 
PCMS scored a single run in the bottom of the fifth off a leadoff triple and an infield groundout.
 
The Lady Braves added six insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Hawkins began the inning with a single and went to second on a PCMS outfield error. After a walk to Callison, Smith singled and Hawkins scored and Callison moved to second. A walk to Zoey Raymond loaded the bases. A walk to Green plated Callison. One out later, a single by Brooklyn Swiger brought home two runs. A ground out by Aubree Owens plated Green. A single by Buffington saw Swiger score from second and BMS now led 15-3.
 
The Lady Wildcats scored a single run the bottom of the sixth and game ended with the final score 15-4.
 
The Lady Braves return to action with a three-game homestand starting on Thursday evening.
 
They host South Middle School on Thursday with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
 
On Friday, the Lincoln Lady Wildcats come to Bridgeport for a 5:30p.m. start.
 
The homestand concludes on Saturday when the Lady Braves will take on the Liberty Lady Mountaineers at noon. Saturday will also be eighth grade recognition day, with the ceremony to be held prior to game time.
