STRONG Idea: 12 Days of Fitness; Day 9

By Emily Stapleton on December 10, 2013 from Strong Ideas

On the ninth DAY OF FITNESS, my trainer gave to me

9 Burpees
8 Spider Man Push-ups
7 Squat Jumps
6 Push-ups
5 Squats
4 Jumping Jacks
3-V-crunches
2-Floor to Ceilings and
A 1-minute plank.

This is the ninth of a series of 12 posts designed to encourage you to meet the challenge of exercising for 12 consecutive days during the holiday season.  Need to start at the beginning? Click here.  Want to read more about the nature of the challenge? Click here.

Finally!  My favorite exercise… The Burpee.  Why do I love the burpee? It’s the most complete exercise I know.  It works virtually every muscle in the body.  And it’s great cardio to boot.  Watch the video for a demo of this one.  Basically, you’re combining the floor to ceiling from day 2 and the plank from day 1.

Modification:  Another reason to love burpees is that the modifications are many.  When you watch the video, you’ll notice that at the end I slow the burpee down and step to the plank (instead of jumping).  You can jump in between each burpee or just reach for the ceiling.  You can even add a push-up for an added challenge.  The intensity is yours to determine.  Make every workout your own!

Just Breath:  For the remainder of the challenge, I’d like for you to finish each workout with 3 long deep breaths.  I like to breath in through my nose and exhale from my mouth.  If you don’t normally practice deep breathing, you’ll be amazed as how your body recovers.

Tune in tomorrow for day 10 of the challenge.

Emily Stapleton
