Nixle: How To Be Sure You Are In "The Know"

By Shaunda Rauch on December 02, 2013 from Emergency Services Blog

Did you know that the City of Bridgeport has a tool to ensure that emergency public warning and safety information is passed on to you as quickly as possible?   The tool is called NIXLE … a service to access important, valuable community information when you need it, using the latest technology.

SPECIAL NOTE:  Tomorrow evening, Tuesday December 3rd beginning at 4PM the Bridgeport Department of Emergency Services will conduct a test of our “Nixle Dial” function.  All Frontier customers in our area should receive a phone call from our Nixle service testing our ability to push emergency public warning information to Frontier landline phones.  We ask for your patience and support as we endeavor to design public warning systems that will ensure that timely and accurate information is made available to our residents.

Why Nixle?
Getting accurate local safety information when you need it is a challenge. Your ability to react to severe weather warnings, evacuation orders and other critical information depends on the accuracy and the immediacy of the information you receive.

Bridgeport’s Emergency Services Department, Fire Department or Police Department will create and publish messages through the Nixle Community Information Service. Nixle will then deliver this information to you instantly via text, email and/or web message. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle’s web site at www.nixle.com.  We are working now to incorporate the Dial function so that we can communicate with residents who have not registered for Nixle as well as implementing the Department of Homeland Security’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System [IPAWS].

Nixle is secure, reliable and easy for our group to use. YOU decide what information you want and whether you want it sent to your cell phone, email, or just simply over the web.

New communication forms continue to evolve and we believe this service will allow us to keep you informed in the most convenient, reliable way possible.

What does it cost to subscribe with Nixle?  Nothing!!  This service is provided FREE OF CHARGE to our subscribers.

How can I sign up for Nixle?

·        Please note that if you had previously registered for our Nixle or NixlePro services, we strongly encourage you to verify that your subscriber account is active by going to nixle.com and entering your username/password.  If your account does not appear, please register again.

To Register:

Go to the City’s website at http://www.bridgeportwv.com/ and enter your information in our registration widget on the left-hand side of the page.
