Off the Shelf: Summer Reading Program Still Ongoing

By Savanna Draper on July 06, 2022 from Off the Shelf

There’s a month left of this year’s Summer Reading Program, Oceans of Possibilities!

It’s not too late to register either, so please feel free to do so at bplwv.beanstack.org. There’s still plenty of time to get some reading in and get entered to win great prizes. There are also several programs scheduled for this month. Attending programs allows you to earn badges that increase your chances of winning a prize at the end of our Summer Reading Program. Check out what’s still to come below…

First up are our adult programs. On Friday, July 8th at 1:00 PM come catch the matinee, In the Heart of the Sea with refreshments. On Monday, July 11th at 5:00 PM we will have a craft program where patrons can make ships out of book pages. This is part of our book upcycling club. On Friday, July 15th at 3:30 PM our beginner’s cross-stitch group will be cross-stitching turtles. All materials for this program are provided and cross-stitchers of all experience levels are invited to come. On Friday, July 22nd at 2:00 PM join us for a free folk concert featuring music duo Andy & Judy. Check out their music on their website, andyjudysing.com/home.

We also have several things left on the docket for children and teen programming. All-Ages Storytime will continue every Wednesday at 12:00 PM for the rest of July. This program serves to introduce our younger patrons to music and literacy. Discovery Days will continue on Thursdays at 12:00 PM and offer opportunities for patrons 0-5 and their caregivers to use their senses and imaginations to explore the world around them. Join us on Saturday, July 9th at 11:00 AM for a matinee of Finding Nemo with popcorn provided. Bermuda Triangle Escape Rooms will be offered at 4:00 PM on July 8th and 2:00 PM on July 21st and are open to those age 10 and older. Patrons have one hour to assist a pilot who encounters issues while flying to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Picking Up S.T.E.A.M. will take place on July 12th at 4:00 PM, while Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead will take place on July 15th at 5:00 PM. Both programs will explore ocean related S.T.E.A.M. concepts (i.e. oil spills and octopus slime).

If you participated in our Summer Reading Program, please plan to attend our end of Summer Reading celebration on July 30th at 4:00 PM at the Dogwood Shelter at the City Park. Refreshments will be provided and prizes will be announced!
