Despite Game Being Dropped, Indians Make Move in Latest MetroNews Class AAA Football Power Poll

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on October 13, 2020

After the last Bridgeport football game, the Indians fell one spot despite a big road win against Parkersburg South; switching spots with Musselman which also won a game. A week after the Indians’ game with Preston was scratched due to COVID-19, the Indians made another move in the poll.

In the latest edition of the MetroNews High School Football Power Index, the 4-0 Indians managed to return to the No. 4 spot in the Class AAA standings. Ironically, the Tribe switched spots again with Musselman, who hammered Hedgesville by a 58-0 score.

How the Indians fare next week is anyone’s guess among the statewide radio broadcasters and journalists voting in the polls. The Indians’ Friday contest with Elkins is not taking place on that day – again due to COVID-19 – and the Applemen with visit No. 7 Hurricane.

There was also a change at the top of the ratings as previously unbeaten and top-ranked Spring Valley fell to Fairmont Senior by a 27-18 score to drop to the No. 3 spot. Cabell Midland, who toppled Hurricane by a 28-20 score, is now No. 1 at 4-0.

Martinsburg maintained the second spot. The Bulldogs topped Spring Mills by an 82-27 score.

No other future or past BHS foes, except for Musselman, is ranked or in the “also receiving votes” portion of the poll.

Thanks to the win against Spring Valley, Fairmont Senior jumped to No. 3 with a 3-2 mark in the Class AA standings. They were supposed to visit No. 7 and 4-1 Robert C. Byrd this week, but action for Friday is off for all Harrison County schools that day.

North Marion is the only other local ‘AA’ in the top 10. The 4-1 Huskies will visit Lewis County Friday. The Minutemen, Elkins, and Liberty are all in the “also receiving votes” portion of the Class AA poll.

Doddridge County, 5-0, was off last week and are still ranked No. 1 in Class A. The Bulldogs are also off this week.
