Fourth Annual Bridgeport High School Boys Basketball Summer Camp Set for July 30

By Chris Johnson on July 02, 2024

The fourth annual Bridgeport High School Boys Basketball Summer Camp will take place on July 30 inside the BHS gymnasium.

The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is open to both boys and girls in grades 2-8 from local and surrounding areas. The cost is $45.

“This is our fourth year of having it,” BHS boys basketball coach Dave Marshall said. “We got blocked out of having it a couple of years because of COVID and the aftereffects of COVID.

“We are hoping to have 40 to 50 kids. We will let the kids have some fun and see the basic fundamentals we try to do with our program.”

The camp will feature a heavy emphasis on defense, rebounding, ball-handling and shooting fundamentals in addition to full and halfcourt games and free throw, hot shot, 1 on 1 and knock out competitions.

The camp will be under the guidance of Marshall, his coaching staff, current BHS players and members of the BHS basketball family.

While Marshall enjoys giving the youngsters a taste of what it is like to be a member of the BHS basketball program, he also likes seeing the involvement of his players.

“Another positive is it allows my guys to work the camp and it’s really fun as a coach to set back and watch them interact,” Marshall said. “They might as well be LeBron James to these kids. I tell them to remember when you were five years old and how you looked up to high school players. It’s fun to watch the seniors, especially, get that.

“They will teach a station by themselves and by the end of the day it’s amazing how much more comfortable and vocal they are. It’s important to the development of our team, I truly believe it.”

Interested campers can sign up by emailing Coachmarshallbhs@gmail.com or text 304-629-9944 or 304-629-9942. Send child name, parent name, email, upcoming grade and T-Shirt size.
