Message from Bridgeport High Principal DeMotto on Key Information for Saturday's Tribe Football Game

By Jeff Toquinto on November 20, 2019

With a November Saturday afternoon West Virginia High School football game on tap for Wayne Jamison Field, the possibility for a bigger crowd is possible. And for those who don’t like crowds and for parents who may want to save a few dollars, Bridgeport Principal Matt DeMotto has some good news for you.

The news involves Saturday’s Class AA quarterfinal contest between No. 2 Bridgeport and No. 10 Mingo Central. The game will begin at 1:30 p.m.

“We’re going to be selling tickets at lunch starting (today), Thursday and Friday. Students can get tickets in advance for $5 and they can get tickets for their parents for $7 for those not wanting to deal with the possibility of waiting,” said DeMotto.

That’s not the only opportunity. Tickets will also be on sale to the public – students too – at 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Bridgeport High School cafeteria.

DeMotto said tickets will be the same price - $5 for students and $7 for adults. He also said individuals can purchase playoff shirts for $15 as well.

Tickets purchased by students and by adults at the gate cost $7.

For those thinking Bridgeport or other schools hosting a second-round playoff game is having a money grab, DeMotto said that’s not the case. In fact, he said the matter is completely out of the hands of BHS.

“Once tournament play starts, the tournament belongs to the WVSSAC. What that means is that it belongs to every member school in the state,” said DeMotto recently. “We’re hosting on behalf on the WVSSAC, which is an enormous group that we’re part of it.”

DeMotto said all proceeds from ticket sales go to the WVSSAC. After that, a share of the proceeds then goes to Bridgeport High School and Mingo Central. He said it’s the same format for every playoff game in West Virginia.

Bridgeport High School does keep proceeds from concession sales. DeMotto said no one will be permitted along the sideline without a field pass on either the home or visiting side.

Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Mark Jones wants individuals who usually are on the sidelines that aren’t a team member to contact him to acquire a field access pass. If you want a pass, contact Jones at mjjones@k12.wv.us or reach him by phone at 304-326-7124. Anyone without field passes will be asked to leave both the home and visiting sidelines.

Gates open at 11:30 a.m.
