The Grapevine: Surgery, Recalling Two Friends who've Passed, Valentine's Day, Easter Bread, and More

By Rosalyn Queen on February 03, 2022 from The Grapevine

Well, it appears that I have number four under my belt.  Meaning I have now had four surgeries to my eye to try and save the retina.

According to research by Alexa, the retina becomes detached when it does not get enough oxygen to the cells, and they may die, and this would lead to blindness.  When this happens, the surgeon has to take immediate action before the vision becomes impaired.  I do not know the entire process, but it seems that a jelly is inserted by the retina so that it will reattach.  I have not the slightest idea why the retina did not reattach the first three times, but I am certainly hoping the fourth one is a charm.

This surgery is done as an outpatient.  It has usually been scheduled on a Monday and the entire process takes about six hours.  After I am released on Monday, I return Tuesday for a checkup and to remove the shield. For the next week I put eye drops in my eye four times a day.  The following Tuesday I go back to see the doctor for a progress report.  As you can see this means several trips to Morgantown and thank goodness for my kids since I do not drive.  I am hoping we now have everything corrected.

A short book review on When We We’re Young by Karen Kingsbury.  It is one of the most meaningful books I have read. It will give you a lot to think about.

Just a reminder as to what is going on at the Progressive Women's Association.  We have put together a lovely basket for Valentine’s Day.  It contains a night’s stay at a local motel, a dinner for two, a bouquet of flowers, a bottle of wine and two wine glasses and a box of chocolates.  The chances are one dollar, and it will be drawn on Feb, 12 at the craft show at the Uptown Event Center.  What a great way to spend Valentine’s Day with your sweetie.

Do not forget to place your order for Easter Bread.  Call 304-624-6881 and place your order as there will be limited loaves.

I was so saddened by the passing of Danny Thomas.  He just seemed to be a member of our family.  I also want to extend my sympathy to the family of Liz Stopiak.  It has been a long time since I have visited the funeral home.  I am trying to take precautions against Covid.  I hope everyone understands but know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Stay in, enjoy the snow, stay healthy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
